Chennai, Oct. 3 -- The Tamil Nadu Government today sanctioned Rs. one croreunder a pioneering scheme to conserve four lesser-known endangered species, theLion-Tailed Macaque, Madras Hedgehog, Striped Hyena, and Hump-Headed MahseerFish.
This initiative, announced by the Minister for Forests and Khadi on the floor of theAssembly in March 2025, marked a significant expansion of the State's biodiversityprotection strategy, moving beyond iconic megafauna like elephants and tigers tofocus on fragile yet vital species that play a crucial role in maintaining ecologicalbalance.
