Chennai, Feb. 17 -- The Interim Budget presented in the Tamil Nadu Assemblyon Tuesday by Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu said the State governmenthas been continuously urging the Centre to reconsider its decision and accordapproval for the Coimbatore and Madurai Metro Rail Project the DPRs of whichwere rejected by it.

He said the State government sought approval for the Detailed Project Reports(DPRs) for the implementation of Metro Rail projects in the cities of Coimbatoreand Madurai.

But the union Government returned the proposals without according its approval,stating that the project reports were not approved on the grounds that the populationof Coimbatore and Madurai cities is less than 20 lakh.
