Chennai, April 22 -- The Tamil Nadu Assembly on Tuesday adopted a condolence resolution mourning the death of Pope Francis, while the State government announed a three-day state mourning as a mark of respect.

Soon after the House Assembled for the day, Speaker M Appavu moved the condolence resolution after which the members observed two minutes' silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul.

Later, the government issued an order announcing a three-day state mourning--today, tomorrow and the day on which Pope Francis will be laid to rest (April 26).

It said all official functions stands cancelled and the National Flag will fly at half mast during the mourning period. UNI GV 1955
