Thoothukudi (Tamil Nadu), March 16 -- Power generation in three units of the Tuticorin Thermal Power Station (TTPS) was severely affected after a major fire broke out at in the plant, while two personnel of Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services department were hospitalised after inhaling black smoke combating the raging fire late on Saturday.
A senior official from the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) said here on Sunday that the fire initially broke out at the cable gallery at Unit 1 of the plant and quickly spread to other parts inside the premises.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known, but was suspected to be due to an electrical short circuit in the cooler room, he added.
