Tiruchirapalli (Tamil Nadu), Feb. 28 -- Sleuths of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs department seized 1.39 kilogram of gold valued at more than Rs 1.22 crore from a passenger arrived from Sharjah at Tiruchirapalli International Airport.
Customs officials said here on Friday that a team of AIU officials conducted a search on passengers arriving from Sharjah through Air India Express flight on Thursday night.
The officials detained a passenger possessing an ice crusher in the luggage on suspicion and upon examination the yellow metal with 24-karat purity was found hidden inside the ice crusher appliance.
The gold was valued at Rs 1,22,70,000, the officials said.
