Madurai (Tamil Nadu), March 20 -- Customs sleuths have seized 93 exotic wildlife species from a passenger who arrived at Madurai airport in a Sri Lankan Airlines flight, official sources said on Thursday.

The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the customs department seized the species from a passenger, who arrived here from Bangkok via Colombo in Sri Lankan Airlines flight on Wednesday afternoon.

The seized species includes 53 tortoises, including 3 black tortoises, 11 varieties of snakes, 18 small iguanas, 7 chameleons and four lizards. The species were hidden in ventilated boxes in a luggage bag.
