Kolkata, Jan. 1 -- A Trinamool Congress youth leader was stabbed to death by assailants while picnicking with friends on New Year's eve in West Bengal's Raiganj in North Dinajpur district, triggering tension in the area ahead of the Assembly elections due early this year.
The incident took place late Wednesday night near Mohanbati market.
The victim, identified as Nabendu Ghosh (37), was the vice-president of the North Dinajpur district unit of the Trinamool Youth Congress.
According to local sources, Ghosh was picnicking close to his home when a group of men arrived on motorcycles and attacked him.
He sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Raiganj Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
