Kolkata, March 17 -- Launching a scathing attack against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Election Commission of India (ECI), West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-after releasing the Trinamool Congress (TMC) list for 291 Assembly seats-on Tuesday asked the BJP to engage in a "democratic and non-violent" electoral contest, even as she asserted that her party would comfortably cross the 226-seat mark in the 2026 elections.
Announcing the candidates from her Kalighat residence, Banerjee said the remaining three constituencies-Darjeeling, Kurseong and Kalimpong-have been left for alliance partner Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha (BGPM), led by Anit Thapa, indicating a calibrated electoral understanding in the hills.
