New Delhi, March 11 -- The Indian National Congress on Monday questioned the timing for notifying the Citizenship (Amendment) Rules, 2024, and said it was a move to polarise the voters, especially in Assam and West Bengal.

Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said on social media post X, "After seeking nine extensions for the notification of the rules, the timing right before the elections is designed to polarise the elections, especially in West Bengal and Assam."

"It also appears to be an attempt to manage the headlines after the Supreme Court's severe strictures on the Electoral Bonds Scandal," Ramesh said.
