Thiruvananthapuram, June 14 -- Kerala government came under pressure to back off from its move to change the timetable of government schools after Muslim organisations raised objections, saying that Madarsa based studies of the Quran and Arabic of about 12 lakh students in the state will be affected.

Earlier, the State Cabinet approved the recommendations of the Prof. M.A. Khader Committee Report regarding the change in the school timetable. Based on the report, the government took steps to add half an hour to the school working hours from next week.

But Muslim organisations say that the decision to add half an hour to the school working hours will adversely affect the religious studies of 12 lakh Muslim children.
