Lakhimpur Kheri, April 1 -- A young tigress was killed after being hit by a train in the buffer zone of Dudhwa Tiger Reserve in Lakhimpur Kheri district on Wednesday morning, forest officials confirmed.

The incident occurred along the Bankeganj-Mailani railway section, between pole numbers 186/14-5, passing through the Mailani forest range.

According to officials, the tigress was attempting to cross the railway track on Tuesday night when she was struck by an oncoming train.

The impact of the collision was severe, throwing the animal off the tracks and resulting in its death.
