Bhabhua (Bihar), Sept. 1 -- At least three women were charred to death and five others sustained serious burns when lightning struck them this morning in Bihar's Kaimur district.

Police sources said the incident took place in Kurai village under Mohania police station area, where a group of women had gone to work in the fields. Suddenly, a lightning bolt struck, leaving three women dead on the spot.

The deceased have been identified as Madri Devi (35), Kumari Devi (40) and Takshshila Devi (45). Police said the bodies have been sent to Sadar Hospital in Bhabhua for postmortem.

The five injured women were rushed by villagers to a nearby hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
