Islamabad, Aug. 14 -- Three police personnel were killed and six others injured when militants opened fire on a police mobile van in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province early Thursday, police said.

The vehicle of the police quick reaction force came under gunfire in Upper Dir district at wee hours of Thursday, media reported.

The injured personnel were shifted to a nearby hospital, with some in critical condition, Pakistani media reported.

Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to apprehend the attackers.

Outlawed organization Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement on social media platforms.
