Chennai, April 15 -- Three members of a family died of electrocution in the southern Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu on Monday evening.

Police said Tirupathi (28), a mike set owner, was tying a loudspeaker in connection with a temple festival at Kaariseri village, when the wire he was connecting to it came into contact with a electric transformer.

His wife Lalitha (25) and Grandmother Bagyam (65), who tried to save him, also suffered shock and died on the spot.

Two people, Kavin and Dharmar, who tried to save them suffered injuries and were admitted to hospital.

Police have registered a case and are investigating.
