Chennai, April 25 -- Three people were killed and one hurt in a cracker blast at Omalur in Salem district of Tamil Nadu on Friday night.

Police sources told UNI that the crackers, stacked in gunny bags, were being taken in a two-wheeler as part of a temple festival when the mishap occurred.

The victims, travelling in a two-wheeler, were crossing a garbage dump which was burning when a spark from it triggered the explosion, in which three people were charred to death on the spot.

Their identities were being ascertained.

On of the injured was admitted to government hospital for treatment, reports received at the police headquarters here said.

Police have registered a case and are investigating. UNI GV 2350
