Shimla, Aug. 6 -- At least three people lost their lives early Wednesday when a car carrying four passengers plunged into the Pabbar river near Chirgaon in Shimla district.

One person survived the fatal mishap.

The incident adds to the mounting toll of tragedies triggered by relentless monsoon rains that continue to paralyse life across Himachal Pradesh.

In view of incessant rainfall and forecasts of further downpours, authorities have ordered the closure of all educational institutions, including Anganwadis, ITIs, and colleges, in several subdivisions, including Rampur, Jubbal, Sunni, Kumarsain, Chopal, and Dodra Kawar. Prominent schools like Chailsey, Sacred Heart Convent, and St. Edward's in Shimla have also been shut.
