Guwahati, Sept. 9 -- Ahead of the next year's assembly elections in Assam, three former MLAs, two from the ruling BJP and one from the BJP's alliance partner Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), have joined the Congress.
Former BJP MLAs including Dr. Mansing Rongpi and Binanda Saikia, alongwith AGP leader Satyabrata Kalita, formally joined the Congress at a ceremony held at party's headquarters in New Delhi yesterday.
Binanda Saikia, a three-term MLA from the Sipajhar constituency, and Dr. Rongpi, who represented Baithalangso for three consecutive terms from 2006 to 2016, bring significant political experience to the Congress. Dr. Rongpi had defected to the BJP in 2016 and retained his seat in a by-election, but the party denied him a ticket in 2021...
