Chennai, March 27 -- Three wagons of an empty goods train derailed near Tambaram Yard in Chennai on Thursday evening.

However, Express and EMU train services on the busy Chennai Beach- Tambaram-Chengalpattu section were not affected following the derailment, which occurred when the wagons jumped the rails while being shifted to the Tambaram Yard.

It was the busy stretch as a number of south bound trains leaving the Egmore Railway Station will pass through the Tambaram station.

Southern Railway sources said "Today, at 1852 hours, three empty goods wagons (8th, 9th, and 10th wagons) of the NMG rake derailed while being shifted to Tambaram Yard."
