Manila, May 29 -- Three people have died and seven others injured after an 18-wheeled trailer truck plowed into five vehicles while traveling along a four-lane road in the Philippine capital, police said on Thursday.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Geoffrey Lim told reporters that the crash happened around 11:30 p.m. local time Wednesday while the truck was descending a road in Quezon City.

Initial investigation showed that the speeding truck swerved to the left, causing it to roll on its side and crash into three motorcycles, a sedan, and a basic utility vehicle.

Among the dead were a pedestrian man waiting for a ride in a shed and a motorcycle passenger who died at the scene. Another person was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Those ...
