Chennai, Oct. 24 -- After the Tamil Nadu government urged the Centre to procure paddywith 22 per cent moisture content relaxing it from the earlier 17 per cent, three Central teamslanded in Tamil Nadu today to assess the same for the next three days from tomorrow.

While two teams were headed by the Food Department Deputy Director, the other teamwas led by the Assistant Director.

The teams were deputed by the union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and PublicDistribution to evaluate the quality of paddy affected by recent rains after the Tamil Naduurged the Centre to relax the procurement norms for the Kharif Marketing Season 2025-26from the permissible limit of 17 per cent to 22 per cent.
