Agartala, Nov. 1 -- Tripura Police have taken into custody three individuals in the murder of a woman suspected of witchcraft in Abhicharan under Sidhai police station of Mohanpur in West Tripura.
The victim, Nanda Rani Debbarma, was reportedly attacked and hanged on October 26 after the accused alleged that she had cast an evil spell that led to illnesses in their families. The incident went unreported for several days due to threats of social ostracism directed at her family.
The matter came to light when her sister, Takshati Debbarma, filed a complaint on October 28. Subsequently, the police exhumed the body for a post-mortem examination and filed a First Information Report (FIR) against five individuals.
