Agartala, Aug. 7 -- The Tripura Human Rights Commission (THRC) has sought suspension of the proposed inauguration of the redeveloped Maharaja Bir Bikram College lake, under the 'Smart City Mission', citing it will affect the ongoing legal proceedings related to the project.
The century-old lake has been a popular destination for migratory birds from Siberia in the winter, and a biodiversity hotspot with a huge population of flora and fauna. The lake is one of the largest water bodies in the city, which has been turned into a park by Agartala Smart City Ltd, destroying its natural character, scheduled to be inaugurated on Independence Day.
