Tel Aviv, July 30 -- Alon Aboutboul, one of Israel's most accomplished actors and best known abroad for his role as Dr. Leonid Pavel in The Dark Knight Rises, has died at 60, the country's Culture Minister Miki Zohar announced.
Aboutboul collapsed and died on Habonim Beach near Haifa yesterday after a morning swim. The Jerusalem Post reported
He is survived by his wife, Shir Bilia, and their four children.
Witnesses said he complained to people that he was ill before falling over. The actor received CPR from lifeguards but could not be revived.
Aboutboul, born in Kiryat Ata to parents of Algerian and Egyptian descent, was known as both a handsome movie star with real screen presence and an accomplished actor. He was prolific and versatil...
