Thane, Nov. 18 -- Thane district has launched an extensive leprosy screening programme as part of a major initiative to eliminate disease transmission, with health teams beginning door-to-door surveys on November 17. The campaign, which will run until December 2, is a coordinated effort between the central and state health departments to achieve the national goal of zero leprosy transmission by 2027.
Under the initiative, health workers will conduct comprehensive surveys across all rural areas and 30 per cent of urban localities in the district. A total of 2,432 teams have been deployed to carry out household examinations, focusing on identifying individuals who may remain undiagnosed due to mild or unnoticeable symptoms.
