Mumbai, Nov. 19 -- A mega investment fraud is being probed by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Thane police. Around 200 investors were allegedly cheated of more than 100 crore rupees, officials said on Wednesday.
A case has been registered against nine individuals, and inquiries show that one accused had previously faced legal action in 2019 and 2023.
According to the complaint, a businessman invested eight lakh rupees in 2016 after being promised monthly returns of 1.8 per cent. The company paid interest for two years before stopping abruptly, citing financial difficulties. The complainant later learnt that around 200 other investors had also suffered losses exceeding 100 crore rupees through similar schemes run by the company.
