Thane, Dec. 17 -- The Thane Municipal Corporation has launched a strict enforcement drive against unauthorised political advertisements following the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct for the upcoming local body elections, removing 1,404 illegal banners and posters across the city within 24 hours, officials said.

The action was carried out by the Anti-Encroachment Department between 4 pm on December 15, and December 16, after the election code came into force for the Thane Municipal Corporation general elections. Polling is scheduled to be held on January 15, 2026.
