Bangkok, July 29 -- Thai ground forces captured 18 Cambodian soldiers following an armed clash along the shared border, the Thai army said on Tuesday.

"The 2nd Army Area has reported the results of detaining 18 Cambodian soldiers following the clash incident in Samtae area, Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province [in Thailand]," the army said in a statement.

Among those captured were one Cambodian second lieutenant, two master sergeants second class, 12 sergeants, two corporals, and one lance corporal.

All detainees are being held in accordance with the Geneva Convention, the Thai army said. Cambodian forces had used heavy weapons and mortars to fire into Thai territory, it added.
