Bangkok, Dec. 27 -- Thailand and Cambodia on Saturday announced that they have signed an agreement to implement a ceasefire, bringing an end to weeks of armed clashes along their disputed border. The ceasefire came into effect at noon local time today.
The agreement follows intense fighting that has left more than 100 people dead and displaced over half a million civilians on both sides of the border.
"The ceasefire will take effect from 12:00 today along the entire line of contact between the armed forces," Thai Defence Minister Natthaphon Narkphanit told mediapersons after bilateral talks with Cambodia. He added that all forces deployed along the line of contact must immediately cease all hostile actions against one another.
