New Delhi, Aug. 28 -- Terrorists chose Pahalgam for the April 22 strike as the site in Jammu and Kashmir was far from the reach of the authorities and many tourists were present there, National Investigation Agency (NIA) sources said today.

The agency said the assault was executed by a group of only three terrorists who killed 26 civilians.

According to the anti-terror agency, the trio meticulously chose the tourist destination of Pahalgam for its strategic disadvantages to security forces: its isolated nature, high density of tourist traffic, and considerable distance from major urban centres.
