Mumbai, Sept. 18 -- Tension mounted in Mumbai after some unidentified person allegedly defaced the statue of the late Meenatai Thackeray at Shivaji Park, Dadar West, by throwing red paint over it, police said.
Meenatai Thackeray, wife of the late Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray, passed away in 1995 and is revered by Shiv Sena workers. Her statue has stood at Shivaji Park for several years. She remains an inspirational and maternal figure, affectionately called "Mai Saheb" by followers of the Uddhav-led Shiv Sena, the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) headed by Raj Thackeray.
