Kolkata, Aug. 5 -- Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, faced a violent protest today when his convoy was allegedly attacked by hundreds of Trinamool Congress (TMC) supporters at Khagrabari-the entry point to Cooch Behar town.

The incident occurred while Adhikari was en route to a political programme that had been cleared by the Jalpaiguri Circuit Bench of the Calcutta High Court. His bulletproof vehicle sustained damage during the attack.

Despite a visible police presence, TMC supporters waved black flags and raised slogans to block the convoy.

According to Cooch Behar district TMC president Abhijit Dey Bhowmik, the party had organised protests at 20 locations across the district to oppose Adhikari's visit.
