Hyderabad, July 5 -- Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said today that the state is set to emerge as a national role model in women empowerment with the launch of a large-scale interest-free loan distribution programme to women's self-help groups (SHGs) from July 10 onwards.

Speaking at the Indira Mahila Shakti Sambaralu event held at Praja Bhavan, the Deputy CM handed over rent cheques from the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (RTC) to women's groups that had provided buses on lease. He called the Rs 1 crore payment a "promising beginning" and said more revenue opportunities through RTC and other departments would follow.
