New Delhi/Hyderabad, Sept. 16 -- Telangana Agriculture, Marketing, Cooperation, Handloom & Textiles Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao today met union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in New Delhi, urging the Centre to sanction new Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) and additional portable sprinkler systems for the state.

Highlighting the needs of Telangana's predominantly small and marginal farmers, Tummala said strong technical and agricultural support is crucial. Of the state's total geographical area of 112.08 lakh hectares, nearly half (49.64 per cent) is cultivable. Around 70.60 lakh farmers cultivate 67.14 lakh hectares, with the average landholding size just 0.89 hectares.
