Hyderabad, Nov. 28 -- The Telangana High Court on Friday refused to stay the panchayat elections in the state, stating that it could not intervene at this stage of the poll process.
The petition was filed by Backward Class groups challenging Government Order (GO) 46, which deals with reservation allotment for the upcoming panchayat elections. The petitioners argued that reservations should be extended to the most backward sections within the BC community and demanded that quotas be structured according to the ABCD classification of BC categories.
When the matter came up for hearing, the court observed that the election process had already commenced and therefore a stay could not be granted.
