Hyderabad, April 6 -- Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Monday said that establishing de-addiction centres in prisons is crucial for the rehabilitation of inmates, as he inaugurated the "NIVRUTTI" De-addiction Centre at Cherlapalli Central Prison.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor described substance abuse as a serious social and public health issue requiring a comprehensive response. Recalling his own experiences of imprisonment, he said it gave him insight into the challenges faced by inmates and prison staff. He also highlighted past efforts to improve prison conditions, including the provision of basic amenities and ensuring parity in salaries between police constables and warders.
