Hyderabad, Aug. 5 -- Telangana Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao has urged the Central government to ensure an immediate supply of urea to the state, warning that any delay could seriously affect crop yields.

In a letter to Union Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister J P Nadda, the minister said that urea is essential as a top-up for crops like rice, cotton, and maize in August, and a shortage during this peak usage period could impact farmers heavily.

Currently, the state has 1.09 lakh metric tonnes of urea, but at least 3 lakh metric tonnes are required this month to meet demand.

From April 1 to July 31, Telangana was supposed to receive 6.60 lakh metric tonnes of urea but only 4.51 lakh metric tonnes were supplied. Meanwhile, fa...
