Hyderabad, July 13 -- In a significant move to bolster women's economic empowerment, the Telangana government has released Rs 344 crore as interest subsidy for women's self-help groups (SHGs).

Of this amount, Rs 300 crore has been allocated to rural SHGs and Rs 44 crore to urban groups. The funds will be directly deposited into the accounts of the SHGs by July 18.

As part of this initiative, ministers and MLAs across the state will distribute interest subsidy cheques, as well as accident and loan insurance cheques to the beneficiaries. This program is being hailed as a key step in ensuring financial security for women.
