Hyderabad, Sept. 17 -- The Telangana Government today celebrated Praja Palana Dinotsavam (People's Governance Day) across the state, marking the merger of Hyderabad with the Indian union on September 17, 1948.

At the main event in Public Gardens, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy unfurled the National Flag, received a guard of honour, and paid floral tributes at Gun Park before addressing the gathering.

Calling September 17 a "landmark in Telangana's democratic journey," he recalled the sacrifices made during the armed struggle against the Nizam's rule.

He said Telangana people buried autocracy and embraced people's governance on this day in 1948, and today the state enjoys the democratic fruits of that struggle.
