Hyderabad, Dec. 17 -- Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar on Wednesday dismissed disqualification petitions against five MLAs, giving them a clean chit in the alleged party defection case.

The petitions were filed against 10 MLAs who had won the 2023 Assembly elections on BRS tickets, alleging that they later joined the Congress. Citing delays in the inquiry, the BRS and BJP had approached the courts, following which the Supreme Court directed the Speaker to decide the matter within four weeks. The deadline for the ruling expires on Thursday.
