Pune, June 15 -- A 32-year-old software engineer from Pune, with recurrent ischemic episodes and was partially blind, underwent Superficial Temporal Artery to Middle Cerebral Artery (STA-MTA) bypass surgery by a neurosurgeon at Manipal Hospitals here recently. It is colloquially called brain bypass surgery. The patient had recurrent ischemic episodes. He was blind in one eye after a stroke. The surgery was successfully performed, after which the patient has fully recovered and regained his eyesight, said a release on Sunday.
