Shimla, Oct. 29 -- Himachal Pradesh's education system is once again under public scrutiny following an incident of corporal punishment at a government school in Rohru, District Shimla. A disturbing video that went viral on social media showed a head teacher allegedly inflicting severe corporal punishment on a student using a prickly bush.
The Education Department has taken immediate cognizance of the matter. As per an office order issued by the Deputy Director of School Education (Elementary), Shimla, Head Teacher Reena Rathore of Government Primary School Gawana (Centre Kutara), Rohru, has been placed under suspension with immediate effect. Her headquarters have been shifted to the Block Elementary Education Office, Sarahan.
