Guwahati, Feb. 11 -- Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said that the state's tea export has gone up by 40 million kg in the 2025-2026 financial year, while the orthodox tea yield also increased substantially in the current fiscal.

Hailing the improved production and export of tea as a strong turnaround after about 25 years, the Chief Minister said that the state has produced 50 million kgs of total tea of which 50 per cent is orthodox tea.

"As per the statistics available with us, while the export of Assam tea has increased by 40 million kgs, the production of the South Indian tea decreased in the current fiscal," Sarma said while addressing a press conference.
