Dhaka, March 24 -- Bangladesh cricket was left stunned as former captain Tamim Iqbal suffered a heart attack mid-match during a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League game in Savar.

The veteran opener had to be rushed to hospital, where an emergency angioplasty was performed to clear arterial blockages.

The incident unfolded dramatically as Tamim, who was leading Mohammedan Sporting Club, fielded for just one over before experiencing chest discomfort. Match referee Debabrata Paul confirmed that he left the field and proceeded to the KPJ Specialised Hospital and Nursing Home (formerly Fazilatunnesa Hospital) for medical consultation.
