Chandrapur, March 1 -- Maharashtra and District Guardian Minister, Dr Ashok Uike, said on Saturday that as the human-wildlife conflict is on rise, the Forest department should take more effective measures to prevent this conflict.

Speaking at a review meeting of the Forest department here, he said that the name of Chandrapur district has reached the global level due to the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Project.

The number of tigers in Maharashtra today is around 450, of which there are around 225 tigers in Chandrapur district alone while there are 95 to 100 tigers in Tadoba Tiger Reserve, he informed.

Along with the protection of humans, it is necessary to maintain the balance of wildlife, he said.
