Chennai, Feb. 20 -- Expressing deep concern over the rapid increase in incidents
of arrest of fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy while fishing in high seas, Tamil Nadu
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Thursday dashed off a letter to External Affairs Minister
(EAM) Dr. S. Jaishankar requesting him to take effective diplomatic measures to
secure the immediate release of all the arrested fishermen and their boats from the
Lankan authorities and convene the Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting to find a
permanent diplomatic solution to the issue.
In a Demi-Official letter to Dr Jaishankar, copies of which were released to the media
here, he thanked him for his detailed response in the letter dated February 9, 2025.
