SW Monsoon withdraws from India, NE Monsoon sets in over TN, Southern peninsula

Chennai, Oct. 16 -- The Northeast Monsoon has set in over Tamil Nadu and inSouthern peninsular India today.

Met office sources said Southwest monsoon has withdrawn from the entire countrytoday.

Simultaneously, the Northeast Monsoon rainfall activity has commenced over TamilNadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, SouthInterior Karnataka and Kerala-Mahe today, in association with an upper air cycloniccirculation over Comorin area and neighbourhood extending upto mid troposphericlevels.

Easterly/Northeasterly winds set-in over southern peninsular India, south and adjoiningcentral Bay of Bengal in the lower tropospheric levels.
