Kolkata, June 10 -- Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday alleged that a large-scale illegal sand mining across the state was leading to disruption of the ecological balance as well as disturbing the waterways in the country.

"I have lodged a complaint about sand mining in West Bengal with the Ministry of Environment," Adhikari told media. He said Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav assured him that his ministry would look into the matter and take necessary steps.

He alleged the sand mining is a syndicated business run by TMC leaders across the state. This is leading to ecological imbalance and is disrupting the rivers' natural course and damaging waterways of the country, he said.
