Kolkata, Sept. 11 -- West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari today moved the Calcutta High Court, filing a contempt petition against Assembly Speaker Biman Bandopadhyayfor allegedly granting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee a security exemption in violation ofa court order.
Adhikari's plea contends that the Speaker's decision to allow the Chief Minister to enter the Assembly premises with personal bodyguards directly contradicts a recent ruling of the HighCourt.
A single-judge bench led by Justice Amrita Sinha had earlier directed that no legislator, irrespective of party affiliation, would be permitted to enter the Assembly with personal security personnel.
