Kolkata, Dec. 22 -- Suspended Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir on Monday announced that his new political outfit will be named the Janata Unnayan Party (JUP) and will have a 75-member state committee with around 20 per cent representation from the Hindu community.
Kabir said the formal launch of the party would take place at a public meeting in Beldanga in Murshidabad district, around 170 km north-northwest of Kolkata, later in the day.
Murshidabad, a Muslim-majority district, has 30 Assembly constituencies out of West Bengal's total 294 seats, which will go to polls in early 2026.
The Bharatpur MLA said he would also announce at least five prospective candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections.
