Chandigarh, Jan. 5 -- : A CBI court in Chandigarh on Monday granted bail to suspended Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar in a disproportionate assets case, citing the agency's failure to file a chargesheet within the stipulated time period.
The court observed that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) did not submit the challan within 60 days of the accused being formally arrested in the case. During the hearing, the CBI argued that offences related to disproportionate assets attract a longer statutory period of 90 days for filing a chargesheet. However, the court rejected this submission and accepted the defence's contention that the accused was entitled to default bail under the law.
